Company’s Challenge
The main challenge is to efficiently organize a national weekly planning while considering the operations to be performed and an allocation scenario that defines the frequency of weekly visits for each location.
This requires to optimize simultaneously:
- Selection of the optimal visit planning for each client (choice of visit days);
- Assignment of client operations to routes;
- Sequencing of client visits and routing for each vehicle;
- Route planning while respecting strict time window constraints, highly variable service times, and conflicts in collected waste types.
Solution provided
The optimization tool enabled to minimize routing costs by reducing the number of kilometers traveled, CO2 emissions, and the duration of agents missions.Beyond the economic and environmental benefits, the company was able to simulate the impact of reconfiguring visit frequency planning, vehicle selection, fleet sizing, and fleet assignment to service areas (revision of sectorization across all agencies nationwide).
