Company’s Challenge
The main challenge was to optimize delivery planning within low-emission zones (LEZs), accounting for palletization, offloading, and electric vehicle (EV) routing. This required:
- Multi-trip planning for small electric trucks operating on last-mile routing, supplied by larger trucks acting as mobile hubs stationed on the outskirts of cities;
- Palletization and 3D loading optimization of products with varying dimensions, while respecting constraints related to fragility, stackability, and load stability;
- Planning charging schedule for EVs, synchronized with driver break times.
Solution provided
The deployed solution fully offset the additional costs associated with this sustainable reorganization of logistics processes.It not only enabled the ecological transition but also drove significant savings by reducing the fleet size, cutting empty miles, and easing urban congestion.
