The key challenge was to optimize in synergy the 3D loading of compartmented electric light commercial vehicles (LCVs) and the planning of last-mile home deliveries. This required:

  • Assigning orders to the appropriate compartments of the truck (which vary in size), ensuring one customer per compartment when possible (or several compartments depending on order volume)
  • Selecting the right compartment type for each order (with modular compartments reconfigurable at each routing plan)
  • Organizing the transport plan to account for reverse logistics and multiple delivery routing using a heterogeneous fleet of electric vehicles
